One of the most famous yet least visited archaeological spots, the spot which is small, hilly, and now treeless Island of volcanic origin…. That is Easter Island.

The Easter Island was discovered on Easter Sunday, 1722 by Dutch sea captain Jacob Roggeveen. This great collection of 25 meter-high rock monuments still riddle historians and archeologists as to its origin.

Easter Land is one of the youngest populated trainees on Earth, and for most of its history it was the most isolated and inhabited terrain on Earth. Te Pito o Te Henua is the oldest notorious traditional name of the Island which means, “The Center (Navel) of the world”. The island received its reputed present name, Easter Island, from the Jacob Roggeveen.

It is believed that in the 4th century, a society of Polynesian origin settled in this Island, and established a unique tradition of enormous sculpture.

The Easter Island has rich, religious and artistic culture. This culture’s most renowned features are its enormous stone statue called moai. At least 288 of which once stood upon massive stone platforms called ahu. These enormous stone figures were erected between 10th and 16th centuries, which have long mesmerized the whole world and gifted this island with a mythical ambiance.
