Tallest Skyscraper in North America

Standing at 1,450 feet (442 meters) and 110 stories high, Sears Tower is the highest tower or tallest building in North America and the third tallest building in the world, built in 1973. Sears Tower is also called as “Tallest Skyscraper”. It is the Chicago’s most breathtaking views.

Coming to the architecture, Sears Tower was undertaken by famous architect Bruce Graham. To provide stability against high winds Graham used a new form of tabular construction for Sears Tower. Two hundred bundled tube sets were laid into the Bedrock and then, 76,000 tons of manufactured steel in 15-foot by 25-foot sections were put into place. In order to lift these “Christmas Trees” into position four derrick cranes were moved higher with each floor.

On a clear day, you can see 40-50 miles of the city that means Chicago city and its stunning architecture, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin. As the elevators are equipped with 50-inch flat screen monitors that make you experience like you are blasting off and enjoying through the crown of the Sears Tower and into space.

Especially, the view from the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Sea Tower is simply amazing! However, this is not for the people who afraid of heights. One thing I want to say about is a glass-bottom Skydeck for Sears Towers.

With this, visitors won’t have to crane their necks to see straight down. It is nicknamed as “The Ledge”, gives 50-miles view. The Skydeck also features interactive, museum-quality shows stressing Chicago’s history and historic characteristics. The Interactive kiosks provide a tour of Chicago’s milestones. Knee-High Chicago is a kid-level exhibit, which expands all the way around the Skydeck. Cool cut windows put kids an eye-to-eye with views from Chicago’s most mesmerizing moments in history. It offers the visitors the high-tech, high-powered telescopes for a closer look at the city.
