Aswan is well known as “Egypt’s Sunniest Southern city” (as Greeks called), and “ancient frontier town”. It is located about 81 miles south of Luxor, Egypt. Aswan has particularly African Atmosphere. Syene was its ancient Egyptian name.

One can easily spend days in Aswan without any thought of returning home with the things like simply wandering up and down the broad Cornice, watching the sailboats and carving the sky with their tall mats , having a cruise across the beautiful Nile River, enjoying the floating restaurants, listening to pleasant Nubian Music, and tasting freshly caught fish, etc.

It has been a famous winter resort since 19th century. This relaxed and comforting town offers visitors many attractions including the Nile River, Elephantine Island located in the amidst of the Nile, spectacular views of sunsets, Island of Plants upon which Lord Horatio Kitchener built a beautiful botanical garden, Aswan’s Nubia Museum, and many more.

    Wow, what a photo.

    The boats on the Nile (i assume) look so serene, and their diagonal sails are a strong compositional element. This photo really makes me want to visit Aswan.
